12 Interesting Facts About New Appointed Defense Minister Nirmala Sitaraman

On Sunday, Nirmala Sitaraman has been throned as the first full time serving defense minister. Earlier to her, Indira Gandi had occupied this department during her reign for 21 days. However, there is little information available about Nirmala Sitaraman, so, today we are going to inform you some interesting facts about Nirmala Sitaraman.

Nirmala Sitaraman is considered to be the 33rd defense minister. She is the 26th person to hold this office.

Sitaraman was born on August 18, 1959, in Madurai. She was born in Karnataka but brought up in Tamilnadu.

She has done masters in Economics from Jawaharlal University in Delhi.

She met her husband, Dr. Parakala Prabhakar, at JNU. They got married in 1986 and now they are a proud parent of a daughter.

After marriage, his husband moved to London where she worked as a salesman in a company. Later on, she joined a company where she worked as Senior Manager in the sales department.

Sitaraman Father-in-law and mother-in-law were a member of congress party. Her mother-in-law was a Congress MLA. And her father-in-law was a minister in Congress party.

She joined BJP in 2008 as a spokesperson. Seeing her ability she was inducted into BJP cabinet when the party came to power.



Since she belongs to south India, hence, she is not very fluent in Hindi. Therefore, she took oath in English.

An interesting fact about Sitaraman is that she gets up 7 am in the morning and read 9 newspapers for approximately for 3 hours.

She has also worked for BBC in 1991 just before returning to India.

She is known be a tough task master and very punctual.

She had indulged in wars of words with Sushma Swaraj on Twitter over the Seemandhra crisis.
